What goes wrong with an aging site

Most owners start looking for website migration services when the old site has become a daily cost. It rarely breaks all at once. It gets a little slower every year. Plugins stop receiving updates, the theme can’t change without something else breaking, and every small edit means an email to a developer and a wait. On a store the cost is easier to see: a checkout that drags on a phone, stock counts that don’t match the shelf, orders someone retypes into the accounting system each morning.

Moving to a new platform is often the answer, and it’s also where a business can lose ground. A careless move breaks the addresses that Google and your customers already know. Pages that brought in visitors vanish, links in old emails and on other websites land on an error page, and rankings that took years to earn can fall away. That risk keeps many owners on a site they’ve outgrown. A careful migration is built around removing it.

What we build

We build on the platform that fits your business. For most businesses, that’s a proven one.

  • WordPress sites. Company sites, blogs and content-heavy sites with an editor your team may already know, a short list of maintained plugins, and a theme built for your design instead of stacked from page-builder add-ons.
  • Shopify stores. Theme work, product and variant setup, only the apps you need, and connections to shipping, stock, email marketing and accounting.
  • Custom sites and web apps. For when a platform gets in the way: booking systems, customer portals, quote calculators, product configurators and members’ areas. We build them on a modern framework such as Astro or Next.js, with a content editor for the parts your team changes.
  • Migrations. From an old WordPress theme to a new one, from WooCommerce or Magento to Shopify, from Wix or Squarespace to a site you control, or from a hand-built site to a maintained platform. Content, products, customers and order history come with you.

If you came here looking for a Shopify development agency or a WordPress development agency, this is that work, done by a studio that also writes custom code when a platform runs out. Senior engineers build every site and review every line before it ships. AI-assisted tools speed up the routine parts, such as moving content and writing tests.

How we handle a migration

Every old address gets a new home. Before anything moves, we list every page, product, category, image and PDF the old site serves. Each one gets a destination on the new site and a permanent redirect (a “301”, the signal that tells browsers and Google a page has moved for good). Links in old emails, ads and other people’s websites keep working.

What ranks stays. Page titles, descriptions, headings and the copy that brings in search traffic move across as they are, unless you’ve decided to change them. Before launch we compare the new site with the old one page by page. After launch we submit the new sitemap (the file that lists your pages for search engines) and watch Google Search Console, Google’s free report on how it sees your site, for errors.

Speed and accessibility are tested. Every key page is checked on a slow phone connection and against WCAG 2.2 AA, the accessibility standard that makes a site usable by keyboard and screen reader. Both affect how many visitors stay long enough to buy.

The platform fits the job. If Shopify runs your store well, we won’t sell you custom code. If your business needs something no platform does well, we’ll say so before you pay for a workaround. We use the right tool for the problem, not the most expensive one.

What it costs

Every project starts with a free scoping call. We learn what the site needs to do, write down exactly what we’ll deliver and give you one fixed quote before any code is written. Projects start at $2,500, and the price only changes if the scope changes.

What makes a website project bigger or smaller:

  • the number of distinct page types and custom features (this matters more than the number of pages)
  • how much content, how many products and how much order history has to move
  • connections to other systems, such as stock, shipping, accounting or a CRM (your customer database)
  • whether you bring a finished design or we shape it with you
  • custom logic, such as pricing rules, bookings or a members’ area

A company site on WordPress sits at the smaller end. A store migration with years of orders and several integrations sits further up. You can read how we work, step by step, before you get in touch.

Questions about websites & online stores.

Will we lose our Google rankings if we move to a new site?

Nobody can promise rankings, because Google decides them. What a careful migration does is remove the usual causes of a drop: broken addresses, missing pages, lost page titles and a slower site. We redirect every old address, keep the content that ranks and check Search Console after launch for pages Google can't find.

Should my store be on Shopify, WordPress or custom code?

It depends on what you sell and how you work. Shopify suits most stores that want hosting, payments and security handled for them. WordPress with WooCommerce suits businesses with a lot of content, or a shop that lives inside a larger site. Custom code makes sense when your products, pricing or checkout fit neither. We recommend one in the scoping call and explain why, and it's often the simpler option.

Can you take over a site another developer built?

Yes. We start by reviewing what's there: the code, the plugins or apps, the hosting and who has access to what. You hear what's worth keeping and what's a risk before we quote any changes.

Can we update the site ourselves after launch?

Yes. Pages, posts and products stay editable in WordPress, in Shopify, or in the content editor we set up for a custom site, and we walk your team through it before handover. Only changes to the code itself need a developer.
